A couple of weeks ago the kids were in the bath and Mr. Powers attempted to teach Girl Powers the Golden Rule. It went something like this.
HIM: Do you know what the Golden Rule is?
HER: No.
HIM: It’s one of the most important rules there is. It means that you should treat other people the way you want to be treated. So if you don’t want to be splashed in the face, you shouldn’t splash your brother in the face.
HER: I want to be splashed in the face.
HIM: Touché
It didn’t come up again until the other day in the car. Out of the blue she says, “I remember the golden rule!”
“Oh yeah?” I asked. “What is it?”
“It means that you have to do to other people what you want them to do to you.”
“You’re right,” I said. “What made you think of the Golden Rule?”
“Well, I would like Anabelle to invite me over for a sleepover. So that means I should invite HER over for a sleepover so that she will invite ME over for a sleepover.”

At least we’re getting closer. (I think?)

I just LOVE this, especially the “I want to be splashed in the face” part. Oh my!
I think we’re somewhere in the middle of that “discovery that I am not the center of the universe” phase…
Having twin girls, I have had similar type conversations. This one put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing!
